— 05 Common questions

Heritage restoration — questions answered.

Are you on the WA Heritage Council's restoration list?+

Yes — our heritage specialist James Trent is the contact for council enquiries, and the practice is regularly engaged on listed properties.

Can a heritage home be made energy-efficient?+

Yes, and we do this on most heritage projects. Insulation, double-glazing, electric services and PV can all be integrated without changing the building's heritage fabric.

What if original materials are unavailable?+

We source from architectural salvage yards in WA and interstate, and we have ongoing supply relationships in Italy and the UK for harder-to-find period materials.

Do you do partial restorations, or only complete projects?+

Both. A single elevation, a verandah, or a specific room are common engagements — particularly where heritage council approval is required for a small scope.

How is heritage approval handled?+

We run the heritage application end-to-end, including conservation management plan, statement of heritage impact and council liaison. You don't need to engage a separate heritage consultant.

Is heritage restoration always slower than a new build?+

The approval stage adds eight to twelve weeks. Construction itself is comparable, sometimes faster, because much of the structural fabric stays in place.
